Social Media measurement and ROI, is it worth the time?

Social media has changed the marketing, advertising and public relations industry in a big way. Now, it is a necessity to have social media. Some people debate that the time spent on social media is time taken away from tasks that bring in money. However, if you know what you’re doing, social media is a great way to enhance your business. The best part about social media is that it is free!

Many companies have learned the importance of social media and hire people just to manage all of their social media outlets. Before, social media was hard to break into and gain a lot of followers. Now there are tools to see who your followers are and what content they are interested in. Twitter and Facebook have made it easy to narrow down your target audience. Both of the companies have analytics that let you know the most popular content through analytics. Twitter lets you know about your tweets and how successful they were in terms of re-tweets, favorites and replies. Facebook Insights tracks the comments, likes, and demographics of your followers.

Apart from the analytics, I have personally learned different tips on how to increase the reach of posts via social media. I recently attended an Advertising Expo where I learned great tips on social media. One of the questions asked was, how often you should be involved in social media. The answer was three to five posts per week, they also suggested posting between 1-3 p.m. Eastern time. This is because a lot of people check their social media over their lunch break.

Another tip was using hashtags and the tagging of others to the fullest. For instance, by using hashtags a person is able to view content that is directly related to that specific topic. This will lead them to your profile and hopefully end in a follow. By tagging others, it could also lead to more followers from their followers. More followers means more potential clients you have for your company. This leads to more business, which gives you return on your time invested. Ultimately measuring your ROI.
